In the West drawing room, once Elizabeth learned Darcy was at Longbourn, she immediately ran above stairs to her room. She wanted to refresh herself as well as to change into a finer dress, she would not allow him to see her looking drab and wane. No, she wanted him to see her looking vibrant and filled with life! She wanted him to know she had not given even the smallest thought to him whilst she had been away.

He would know for certain that he was as absent in her heart and mind as she was in his own. When the door to her room creaked open, she knew it was Jane before she even spoke saying, “Here, take a seat, I shall do something with your hair. It does not look bad, it really only needs a brushing here and there.”

Lizzy sat down, she did not speak as she did not want Jane to ask her questions about why she was changing her clothes. But Jane being Jane, did ask saying, “Lizzy? Did you spill something on your dress? Is that the reason you changed?”

Lizzy kept her head lowered and just shook it back and forth, Jane let out what was either a huff of air or a chuckle before saying, “Oh…I see. Well you have chosen an excellent dress, I must say. This colour has always looked very well on you, now give me a moment I have to find the yellow ribbon that goes with it. He will swoon when he sees you!”

Lizzy lifted her head saying, “I do not wish for him to swoon Jane! I only changed my dress so that I could…I could…Well never mind that! As I intend to slay him with words the moment I see him! I shall tell him everything that went unsaid the last time I spoke with him. You shall see sister! That man shall rue the day, he disparaged our family!”

Jane tilted her head, and gave Lizzy a smile before saying, “Oh but Lizzy, you know as well as I, Mr. Darcy has apologized many times to our family…There is no need for this slaying with words you are endeavoring to give the man.”

Lizzy stood from her chair saying, “Yes! He has apologized to the entire family, all save me…Well me and you of course! So I shall have my say and I shall say all that I wish right in front of his family, the ones who he feels are so above all of us lowly Bennett’s. You shall see Janie, I shall give no quarter and I shall take no prisoners!”

Whilst that mostly one sided conversation was going on above stairs, the men all arrived at the West drawing room. Loring espied his Katherine immediately, she was sitting in a chair near the window.
